In a complete 360 degree turn-around, the party has decided to drop their weapons and violent method of agitation and take up guitars, tambourines and put on their dancing shoes. Through songs and dance, the GJM supporters and party members are demanding Gorkhaland for them. “Every individual has a democratic right to protest and agitate and we are doing that without budging away from our one point agenda of Gorkhaland,”.

    .

said GJM leader, Roshan Giri. A team of poets, singers, musicians and actors have travelled all the way from Kalimpong to stage their presentation in Darjeeling. The theme is Gorkhaland and the language of protest is Nepali and Gorkhali.Language was the final trigger that brought the hills to a boiling point after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced to introduce Bengali as an optional subject in the hills as she was doing in the rest of the state. Realising language could be a great leveler in terms of uniting different political factions of the hill people, GJM president Bimal Gurung gave a call for immediate withdrawal of the decision.

He said Bengali as an optional subject would be a burden for the local students, already studying three languages – Nepali, Hindi and English.Gurung used this opportunity to renew the call for Gorkhaland, which had always been a running thread to bring the hill people on one platform, whenever they felt neglected and deprived by the state administration.
