May 2, 2017- Naya Shakti Party Nepal and Sanghiya Samajbadi Forum Nepal have registered joint candidates for the post of mayor and deputy mayor to contest the local level elections in Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC). The parties have picked Pabitra Bajracharya and Sabina Aryal as candidates for mayor and deputy mayor for KMC. Talking to mediapersons after filing mayoral and deputy mayoral candidates for KMC at the Rastriya Sabhagriha, Forum Nepal Chairman Upendra Yadav said that revised constitution should be amended. He further said that the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal, among other parties, would participate in the second phase of elections if the constitution was amended. Naya Shakti Party Nepal Coordinator and former Prime Minister Babauram Bhattarai said that the local polls are essential to implement federalism and local rights. “Though we have dissatisfaction over some provisions, we take part in the elections jointly,” he said, adding, “At the end we will merge the two parties.”
